What You Need To Know About the 2019 Lincoln Continental

Some big enhancements are in store for those looking to purchase or lease a 2019 Lincoln Continental. The factory has added even more amazing features to what was already one of the most feature-rich offerings in the full-size luxury sedan segment. Now, all 2019 Continental models will receive standard features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot information system, and rearview camera regardless of trim level.

Speaking of trim levels, you've got four to choose from in the 2019 Continental lineup: Premiere, Select, Reserve, and Black Label. Each one is supremely appointed with luxury features. What else would you expect from a luxury offering carrying the Continental name? In addition, two different engine options are available with the 2019 Lincoln Continental: a 3.7 six cylinder engine and a 2.7L turbocharged powertrain.

History of the Lincoln Continental

The Lincoln Continental nameplate has been used by Lincoln for ten generations of vehicles, currently spanning nearly 80 years. With the first Continental being built as a personal vehicle for Edsel Ford in 1939, the Continental would go on to become the predecessor to the personal luxury car segment. While being one of the best-selling Lincoln models early on, from 1961 to 1967, it was the only vehicle offered by the manufacturer. Also interesting is the fact that the Continental was the last American factory-produced vehicle with a V12 engine and was also the last produced four-door convertible.  After being renamed the Town Car in 1981, a redesigned Continental came back into the lineup the very next year.

Still popular, the 1998 Lincoln Continental got a complete redesign with a larger grille, more curves and an updated interior. New safety features were added in 1999, including standard side-impact airbags, and an improved audio system and more attractive wheels. The next year, even more safety features became standard on the Continental.

With various enhancements over the next few years, the Lincoln Continental would then be replaced by the LS and MKS in 2002, until it's return in 2017 as a four-door sedan fully equipped with an abundance of standard features like leather upholstery, parking camera, 8-inch touchscreen, and 10-speaker sound system with satellite radio. It also provided significant power under the hood with its 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft of torque.
